Laid back on the sandy path they call Beach Street, is a swashbucklers dream, simply known as The Gaff. Weekly Sandbelt Races at this pirate themed dive bar are a must see when in the Port Aransas area.
As soon as you step through the door, you know this is a no frills, anything goes kind of place. The decor is shabby pirate, no chic. Not the most upscale environment but definitely fits that island time vibe. The Gaff is one of the last remaining dive bars that hasn’t changed since its beginning.
What To Get:
The Gaff only serves beer and wine. So my recommendation is that you grab a pitcher of Cerveza Pacifico and a large “Gaffer” pizza. Get your pizza order in early because this place gets running behind quickly on Friday & Saturday nights. We found the pizza to be pretty decent but not worth the 1 hour wait, but the beer was ice cold and came in a frosty mason jar.
Extremely laid back, low-key, down to earth with a little redneck flair. The Bartenders love to yap wit the locals while pouring drinks, and smoke cigarettes behind the bar.
The Gaff certainly isn’t for everyone. But for those who have a pirate spirit then it feels right at home. If I ever find myself in Port Aransas again, you will most definitely find me at The Gaff.
