Located on the opposite end of the island away from the hustle and bustle of Central Isla Mujeres, is the newly constructed Isla 33 Resort & Villas. The property sits directly across the street from the ocean, providing stunning blue water views from every part of the property. When arriving at Isla 33 you can’t help but notice how well the property is landscaped and maintained.
The staff at Isla 33 was very helpful from check-in to check-out. Upon check-in we we’re promptly escorted to our Villa which was located on the 2nd floor, the staff carried up our bags since the elevators have not yet been installed. Any issue we had while at the resort the staff was quick to respond and we are impressed with the service. We did had problems with our keyless entry but the staff quickly replaced the entire lock quickly.
While staying at Isla 33 we enjoyed a 2 Bedroom/2 Bath Villa that featured a full kitchen, large dining area with dining table, a comfortable living area and multiple balconies. The villa boasted picturesque 2nd story views of the Caribbean Sea from the master bedroom and living areas. The full kitchen had a dishwasher, stove, fridge and featured granite countertops. The entire villa had tile floors throughout, hardwood furniture and high-end bathroom amenities. The master bedroom featured a custom hand-laid brick cupola which added a authentic flair to the room. Another cool thing was that there were 3 Air Conditioning systems so you can independently control the temp of each bedroom and the living area, unfortunately the Air Conditioning had gone out in the Master during our stay, so we just moved into the guest room where the air was running cold. We were quite impressed with the overall layout our villa at Isla 33 and the high-end decor.
The bed in the master bedroom mid-firm and king sized as the bed in the guest room was queen sized and a little more soft. We both prefer a softer bed so sleeping in the guest room was the better option even if the master air conditioning had been working. There was an abundance of pillows provided on each bed which we always welcome.
The master-bath featured a large jacuzzi bathtub that was open to the room and providing views of the ocean while soaking the warm day off. Double sinks, marble countertops, large walk-in shower with rain-head and with separate toilet room were all great features of our master suite. The second bathroom had a single sink, shower and toilet.
Isla 33 has one on-site restaurant & bar called Nico’s. We didn’t get a chance to grab a bite during our stay but we did visit the bar for a drink. The lounge area again, has great views of the ocean with indoor and outdoor seating and live entertainment on certain nights.. The menu at the restaurant has a mix of American & Mexican style food.
The WiFi was included at Isla 33 and our room had an Apple TV which allowed us to stream Netflix and other services. The internet at Isla 33 was hands down one of the fastest connections we’ve had on the island – which made it ideal for working.
Isla 33 is a beautiful up and coming resort. While they have few kinks to work out like some minor pest control we still think that Isla 33 is a great option for those looking to step outside the traditional resort and live like a local. This property would be ideal for couples, families and large groups as they have various options from studios to penthouses.
Would we go back?
Ben: Yes. – Isla 33 does have some growing pains but overall it was the nicest place we’ve stayed on the island. The decor, amenities and high speed internet made our stay very pleasant. The view from our room alone is worth the trip.
Sadey: Yes. I’m shocked that I find myself saying this but our villa at Isla 33 provided us with all the amenities of home but still managed to make us feel like we we’re on vacation.
-If you plan on leaving Isla 33 we recommend renting a golf cart from Ciro’s in town.
-Street Parking at Isla 33 is safe and plentiful.
-Isla 33 is located about a 15 minute drive from the ferry drop off.
