Hotel Icon Review – Hong Kong Hotels

Conveniently located in Kowloon and towering over the bay – is the ultra sleek and modern Hotel Icon. We chose this hotel over all the other Hong Kong hotels because of their location, view of the bay and service rating.

As we exited the taxi we were quickly greeted by bell staff who took our bags and welcomed us to the hotel. Check-in at the hotel was quick and efficient – the way it should be. We were promptly greeted by the manager, who wanted to make sure we had everything we needed. After just a few moments we were escorted by the bellman to our room.

Located on the 25th floor with a breath taking view of Victoria Harbor was our hotel room. We were upgraded to a Club Level room which included free mini bar access…yes a real free mini bar – beer, wine, soda, candy….all free. The room was a minimal design with modern decor. We found the space of the room to be cozy and comfortable. The only odd thing was a bulky chair located on one side of the bed which frankly got in the way when you tried to walk on that side of the room. We could have done without it for sure and feel it would have improved the overall open concept floor-plan.

The bed was very comfortable. The linens we’re of high quality and they didn’t sleep too hot or too cold which is extremely important to us. Another thing we both liked is that there was a night stand on both sides of the bed – something we both feel is essential, however only one side had a outlet for charging your devices which was a slight downside. Hotel Icon also has a pillow menu so you can order as many as you’d like to make it extra comfy – something we’re both into.

Behind the headboard of the bed was our bathroom. The half wall provided sufficient privacy from the rest of the room. The vanity featured a vessel sink, lighted vanity mirror, a toiletry bag with all the necessities and large mirror which also provided stunning views of the bay. Behind the door on the left was a deep bathtub and separate shower styled with beautiful slate tiling. To the right of the vanity was separate toilet area closed off by a glass door.

Since Hong Kong is an international business hub we had high expectations for the internet and the Wifi at the hotel did not disappoint like many other cities in Asia. Another bonus is their Handy Phone, a mobile phone that Hotel Icon provides for their guest for you take with you in the city that offers free Wifi anywhere you go – s0 you can stay connected. Our room also had a printer that you could email files to and it would print them out complimentary – we found this very helpful for online check-in.

Hotel Icon has several restaurants and a roof top lounge. We didn’t eat at them while on our stay but we did get room service. The room service menu was a nice eclectic offering of Eastern and Western items. Since we had been traveling in Asia for 3 weeks we were really in the mood for something Western and everything we ordered gave us a taste of home. When it comes to burgers Ben is really picky and he was happy with the seasoning and the fact he was able to choose how he wanted it cooked – normally most places cook them well done without question.

We found the staff very friendly and eager to help. They spoke English very well which was a welcoming addition to our stay. The concierge was knowledgable about the things we wanted to do and even helped us purchase tickets in advance for The Big Buddha which saved us over 2 hours of waiting in line. Hotel Icon is known for their service in the Hong Kong area. The hotel is so service oriented that they have a school for the hospitality industry – training others to learn how to offer a level of service like Hotel Icon does.

What impressed us:
– Customer Service… was seriously spectacular.
– Pillow Menu, any hotel that offers a pillow menu gets extra points in our book.
– The location was perfect for us as we wanted to be in (Kowloon) and it was in walking distance to the metro.
– Free shuttle to shopping and metro station
What could be improved:
-The elevator at the hotel is slow, very slow and sometimes were found ourselves waiting 5 minutes to catch a ride down to the lobby.
-Pickup for free shuttle was a little sporadic and wasn’t always on time.
Would you go back?
Ben: Yes, our room was a good size and the view of the bay was insane!
Sadey: Yes, the comfort of the room was great and I really enjoyed that the hotel put thought into their technology in the room.
Overall the Hotel Icon was definitely the place for us.  Going to bed every night and looking across the bay was a highlight of our trip in Hong Kong. If you are looking for Hong Kong hotels and love modern decor with great service then the Hotel Icon is for you.
