Located in the El Centro area is Amigos, a family owned Mexican Restaurant. What makes this place great is the down home feel and great customer service….not to mention the food. Our must have is the Tampiquena Steak – a traditional Mexican style steak with fried plantains, fresh guacamole, fried bread, beans and house made quesadillas.
2. Mango Cafe
Situated towards the Southern End of the island is a Caribbean eatery known as Mango Cafe ~ open for breakfast, lunch and dinner service. Everything we’ve ordered here has been great but some of our favorites include: Steak Burrito, Juevos Rancheros, Coconut French Toast and Breakfast Quesadillas. Make sure you go early as this place can get busy.
Tucked away on the streets of Downtown is Ruben’s an authentic eatery for both locals and tourist alike. Ruben’s serves up some series grub with prices that will make you smile. Highlights include the Chicken Flatus and Super Burrito (go for green and red sauce). Our dishes came out perfect and we really can’t wait to come back again.
4. Green Verde
Positioned along the main drag heading South from Downtown is The Green Verde. This cool cafe is a great place for breakfast or lunch when on the Island. What makes GV special is that all the materials used to build the restaurant are recycled. Green Verde’s funky decor makes it one of the most unique stops on the island. Highlights include: Fish Tacos, Special House Guac and Hibiscus Juice.
5. Bally Hoo
Hands down one of your favorite places on Isla is Bally Hoo – a beach bar and resturant located behind the PeMex off the main drag near Downtown. The staff is great, the drinks are strong and the food is killer. Our favorite dishes include: Fish Tacos, Fresh Guac, Conche Ceviche and our new favorite Grilled Octopus. Be sure to ask for Jacob and tell him The Wanderlusty sent you.

Located in the La Gloria area of Isla is a tasty Mexican grill known as Basto’s. Our favorite thing about Basto’s is family owned atmosphere and friendly service. This quant restaurant offers up some tasty Mexican classics such as: Fajitas, Quesadillas and Flatus. This place is off the beaten path but worth the trip!

Placed amongst the busy Downtown area is Lola Valentina a great Caribbean fusion style restaurant. What we love about Lola’s is that it has a great outdoor dining area with an open air feel. 8. La Lomita
Set along the side street behind the Naval Base is a great dive restaurant known as La Lomita. This place serves up the coldest beer on the island – it comes in a frozen ceramic mug!
