HOW ARE YOU ABLE TO TRAVEL SO MUCH?
Luckily our job allows us to travel for work and we get to spend extra days in cities for fun. Since we are business owners and work together scheduling is not an issue. The best thing about our job is that we work in Advertising so all we really need is an Internet connection and our MacBooks.
HOW DO YOU PAY FOR ALL YOUR TRAVEL?
It’s all about the frequent flyer programs, hotel loyalty programs, online shopping incentives etc. Check out our post here & here for points info and travel 101. We also hold numerous reward cards for both business and personal credit accounts. We pay for all our company orders via American Express or Airline Travel Cards thus gaining us tons of points to use towards travel. We also use Hotels.com to book our hotels and with their loyalty program every 10 nights gets you 1 free night so they add up quickly.
MUST HAVES WHEN TRAVELING?
Sadey: Evian Water, a fan
Ben: My iPod, headphones, macbook and a strong drink.
WHERE DO YOU LIKE TO STAY?
Our preferred hotels are: Omni Hotels & Resorts, Hyatt and Kimpton Hotels
HOW DO YOU GET AROUND?
We research each city we are traveling too and find the best option for each destination. Metros, Planes, Trains, Boats, Cabs or Car Rental is not out of the question. We try to blend with local transportation if we can but it really depends on where we are staying and what we are doing.
HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR TRIPS?
Research, Research Research. When we take extended trips we spend a lot of time coordinating air travel with hotels, train schedules and metro stations. There really is no need to use a travel agent these days, self reliance is much more rewarding and more fun! We book most of our flights directly with airlines, we use Hotels.com for booking hotels. TripAdvisor is a great way to find out what to do and where to eat, much more reliable than Yelp.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLACES?
Ben: London, Paris, Vegas Baby Vegas
Sadey: London, Rome, Isla Mujeres, and of course Vegas
IS IT SAFE TO TRAVEL ABROAD?
Yes it is, but check local travel advisories. Some foreign countries have unsafe areas/food and water so just be safe and check before booking. The best tip we can offer is, Be smart about your surroundings, whom you are talking with and you will be fine. We have never had any issues with safety, its all about discovering new things so get out there and explore!
DO YOU GET SICK ON YOUR TRAVELS?
Getting sick while traveling is inevitable when you travel as much as we do. From food poisoning to getting a cold … we’ve been there and it’s no fun. Both of us try to drink Airborne or Emergen-C to help boost our immune systems and we also keep hand sanitizer close by. We find this combo helps minimize sickness when on the go.
HOW LONG DO YOU STAY IN EACH LOCATION?
Depending on where we are going it could be a few days or even a week. We like to stay a few days in each new place we visit so there is enough time to absorb all we can. We find that 3 or 4 days in a new place is enough time to see the things you want and grab a good meal.
DO YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH LANGUAGE?
Not at all. We’ve found that English is spoken in most parts of the world, but Ben is pretty fluent in Spanish so that helps. Since most languages are Latin based, you shouldn’t have a problem reading street signs and figuring out the context of what is going on.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
Sadey: Iphone 5s, Sony A5100, Olympus Pen, Ipad, Macbook Pro
Ben: Iphone 6, GoPro, Macbook Air, Ipad, Ipod Shuffle and my wifi hotspot
DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS?
Yes! We have two chihuahua pups (Martini and Pixel) and a kitty (Bones). Our pups get to travel with us from time to time but they love spending time with their grandparents when we’re unable to take them with us.
DO YOU HAVE KIDS?
No and we aren’t planing on any at this time. We are both career driven and are not ready to settle down just yet.
ANY TRAVEL TIPS?
Sadey: Invest in good pair of headphones, I prefer V-Moda, they cover your ears fully and are super comfy for long haul flights. Check reviews on hotels for comfort levels of the beds, there’s nothing worse than arriving in a beautiful hotel to find a rock for a bed. Travel light when possible, it’s hard, especially for us gals… but i’ve done month long trips before with one carry on suitcase and a small backpack and it’s a lot easier than lugging around huge suitcases
Ben: Get a nice suitcase with good wheels (worth it!), Airlines run sales every Tuesday so if you can wait to book your flights you’ll save some money, become loyalty member in every program you can, social media is a great way to express a complaint, tip your valets, take care of the front desk people (you might just get an upgrade), don’t be an asshole, remember to have fun and let go.
We’re heading to Asia in December 2015. Antarctica & South Africa is also on the list, but we will have to save for a while for that one.
